The Clinical Islet Transplantation (CIT) Consortium is a network of clinical centers and a data coordinating center established in 2004 to conduct studies of islet transplantation in patients with Type 1 diabetes.
Studies conducted by the CIT Consortium will focus on improving the safety and long-term success of methods for transplanting islets, the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas, in people whose own islets have been destroyed by the autoimmune process that characterizes Type 1 diabetes.
The Clinical Trials in Organ Transplantation (CTOT) project is a cooperative research program sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), with co-funding from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). CTOT is an investigative consortium for conducting clinical and associated mechanistic studies that will lead to improved outcomes for transplant recipients. The purpose of these studies is to improve short and long-term graft and patient survival.

CTOT-C is an investigative consortium for conducting multi-institutional clinical and associated mechanistic studies that will lead to improved outcomes for pediatric transplant recipients. The purpose of these studies is to improve short and long-term graft and patient survival in children who have undergone heart, lung or kidney transplantation.
The Biostatistics Center is a research facility of The George Washington University under the Office of the Vice President for Research. The Center serves as the coordinating center for large scale multi-center clinical trials and epidemiologic studies. Established in 1972, the Center participates in major medical research programs of national and international scope, frequently leading to major medical advances.
Most of the over 65 major research projects undertaken by the Center have been under the auspices of National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other Federal agencies. Center faculty and staff have published over 225 articles related to statistical methodology, clinical trials or epidemiologic methods, over 630 articles presenting the results of medical investigations, and several books.
