Management Team

Our management team comes from a diverse life sciences background. Our experience combines laboratory information management systems development with real life clinical research know-how. Our team has over 20 years in professional services system-implementation experience and is adept at providing end-user support and training in clinical life science settings. Together, we have a combined 50 years experience targeted to meet our customer's clinical research needs.

David Fuhrman - President and General Manager

David has over 23 years experience in the analysis, design, and implementation of software systems and solutions. He has demonstrated effective leadership in all phases of Software Development Cycle methodologies. Mr. Fuhrman has vast and diverse experience in creating software products, software systems integrations, and solutions in Genomics, Proteomics, Clinical Diagnostics, Clinical Research Informatics, Laser Optics, and Finance.

David is a successful business entrepreneur having created and built a dynamic software development and consulting company that offers services in bioinformatics and clinical research informatics — Cimarron Software, Inc.. Before starting Cimarron, he was a key member of the informatics research team at the University of Utah Human Genome Center, providing leadership and technical insight in database design and software tools that were integrated into the high-throughput DNA Sequencing and Genotyping technologies developed at the Genome Center. Mr. Fuhrman also previously served in positions at TMA Technologies, Unisys Corp., and Wasatch Security Research.

Steven Fuhrman - Chief Financial Officer

Steven Fuhrman has over 18 years of experience in project management and implementation of enterprise systems, with an emphasis in finance, accounting, manufacturing, and supply chain management for life sciences companies. Steven has led projects for various Fortune 500 companies including Medical Device Manufacturing, Life Sciences, and Clinical Diagnostics industries. He has a broad range of experience in systems validation and software quality assurance. Prior to joining sampleminded®, Steven worked with Lucent Technologies, LifeScan, J&J, and Bio-Rad Laboratories.

Steven has degrees in English Literature, Financial Accounting, and an MBA in Management of Information Technology from the University of Utah.

Brett Bernstein - Operations and Strategy

Brett Bernstein has over 16 years of experience in the design and implementation of enterprise systems, with an emphasis in infrastructure design and support, regulatory compliance and infrastructure, and software quality. Having built and operated a successful information technology consulting company since 1999, Brett and his teams have lead projects for various Fortune 500 companies, including Medical Device Manufacturing, Life Sciences, Clinical Diagnostics, Telecommunications, and Enterprise Software industries.

Prior to joining Data In Motion, Brett worked for IBM, PeopleSoft, and Helio as an Information Technology Consultant. Brett has degrees in Finance and Information Systems with an emphasis in investment management from the University of Arizona.

Debi Koltenuk - Vice-President of Products and Services

Debi Koltenuk has over 25 years experience with clinical and biological research data management issues, beginning at GenBank®, joining just before the one millionth base pair celebration. After working on database design issues for genomics and genetics data at both GenBank and the Human Genome Information Resource, Debi spent seven years at the bench in the University of Utah Combined Molecular Biosciences Graduate Research Program conducting an evolutionary-developmental research project entitled, "A Sequence Analysis Study of Mouse and Human Homeobox Genes: Discovering Evolutionarily Conserved Regulatory Elements Central to Vertebrate Development."

Since 1998, Debi has provided domain expertise for numerous software development projects that span the genomics and proteomics laboratory data-management domains. Most recently, Debi has become involved in clinical trials data management as Product Manager of sampleminded®. Debi's strong aptitude in the area of clinical trials data management uniquely melds with her past history in nursing.

Daniel Steenblik - Vice-President of Technology and Operations

Daniel Steenblik began his career engineering astrophysics educational software while working as an undergraduate for the Cosmic Ray Research program at the University of Utah. Since then, he has been in the biotechnology arena, architecting modular and configurable software for laboratory sample tracking and PCR instrumentation.

Daniel focuses his additional energies on his young daughter and adventuring in the wild on skis and mountain bikes.

Kevin Allred - Technical Manager

Claire Anderson - Product Manager

Claire Anderson has a broad knowledge of all aspects of basic and clinical research. She began her career in 2002 as a lab tech at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and then joined the Immune Tolerance Network in Bethesda, MD, where she managed the collection, processing, and shipment of mechanistic specimens for ITN clinical trials.

As an independent consultant, Claire has configured, tested, implemented, and supported the sampleminded® system for three NIH sponsored consortia. She then joined the sampleminded® team as a Product Manager in 2011.
